Medical Certificate Issues

The dreaded fear is that we lose our medical. All that time, money, and expense to acheive our goals and a high blood pressure reading or an excessive protein dump can create a nightmare and havoc for our medical certificate. You do not want to lose your medical. If you know you have medical issues up front, it is always best to see your primary care physician. Hopefully, this is not the same as your flight physician. You can't hide your problems from the FAA, but there are things you can do to mitigate your exposure to the FAA. Of course, you want to begin addressing your renewal long before your current one expires. Each situation is different, but the best thing you can do is consult with a reputable physician who knows their way around the FAA before you pick the doctor closest to you. Getting a good examiner makes all the difference in the world. Let's say that you do get the call from the FAA or the letter denying your certificate. Now you are into the morass known as bureacracy. You need two things. A lawyer who can get the FAA to move and a medical examiner who can help your situation. Losing your medical or even having it temporarily denied can destroy your career. Taking a good offensive position up front can do wonders for ensuring your continued and uninterrupted privelege of flying.
